Class Overview: Sarah recently asked if our reading group might read and discuss something about Quaker prayer and what we mean and do when we “hold someone in the light.” This was the seed for our new series of readings, which explores a range of topics related to the Quaker idea variously called the Light Within, the Inward Light, the Light of Christ. We’ll consider questions such as: How have Quakers understood the Light throughout their history? What does the Light mean to you? Is it an essential part of Quakerism or of your Quaker faith? What does it mean to “hold someone in the Light”? How do we “mind the Light”—to borrow a phrase used by George Fox and other early Quakers—in our worship groups and in the wider world.
